Foxygen
Foxygen is an American indie pop group from Westlake Village, United States. It forms in 2005 and is associated with Shaun Fleming, Sam France and Jonathan Rado. The group operates with a changing lineup across its releases but is centred on France and Rado, and its recorded work spans 2005 to the present.
Style and early releases
Foxygen’s music draws heavily on 1960s psychedelia and combines that influence with a rough lo-fi approach. The group begins by self-releasing a series of EPs and albums between 2005 and 2011. Among these is the 30-track Jurassic Exxplosion Philippic, along with Electric Sun Machine, God is Real!, Ghettoplastikk!, Kill Art and EP 2011. Several of these early recordings are now hard to find.
Jagjaguwar and later albums
In 2011, the group meets producer and songwriter Richard Swift after giving him one of its EPs. Swift later works with Foxygen on subsequent albums. After signing to Jagjaguwar Records, the group reissues Take the Kids Off Broadway as its debut album. It then releases We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic, produced by Swift and recorded at his National Freedom studios. The group’s albums are often built around particular periods in popular music history: We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic draws on the 1960s, ...And Star Power on the 1970s, and Hang on the 1940s.

Foxygen’s discography also includes ...And Star Power (2014), Hang (2017), Samifesto (2018), Hoarse Galorēs (2019), Seeing Other People (2019) and Famous Vampires (2021).
