Forest Claudette is a Melbourne-based singer and songwriter working in alternative R&B and pop. Their music centres on diaristic writing and an introspective approach to questions of identity and place.
Claudette grows up in a small town in the Dandenong Ranges in Victoria, Australia. They also spend time exploring soul artists in the United States, which feeds into the shape of their later sound. Their work combines alternative R&B and pop with a reflective, personal style.
They attend an experiential-learning-focused high school, where they spend several years developing their craft. Claudette takes piano, guitar and vocal lessons, but comes to the view that songwriting itself cannot be taught in a straightforward way. They begin writing independently, aiming to tell their own story in song rather than rely only on formal training.
“Creaming Soda” follows years of experimentation and is described as part of the process that leads them to a clearer artistic direction. It reflects a period in which Claudette works toward a sound that feels settled after a longer search.
