Foamo
Foamo is the recording name used by Kye Gibbon, a producer and DJ from High Wycombe in the United Kingdom. The project sits in electro house, house and fidget house, and is also associated with electronic music and carbon parlour. Gibbon later becomes part of Gorgon City.
Style and background
Foamo develops a style built around bass-heavy, kinetic rhythms and fidgety beats. The music combines elements of garage, dubstep, jungle, drum and bass, hip hop and grime, all of which Gibbon begins absorbing from the age of 13. These influences feed into a form of electro that centres on strong basslines and a restless dancefloor pulse.
Reception and sound
The project gains attention from MSTRKRFT, Drop The Lime, Crookers and Kissy Sell Out. Its sound is described as loud, wonky and bass-driven, with rough-edged vocals and squelching basslines. It is often compared with the bass-heavy approach of Jack Beats, while also carrying a retro feel.
