Flume is the project of Harley Streten, an Australian DJ and producer from Sydney. He is associated with electronic music, including alternative pop, alternative R&B, chillout, EDM, experimental electronic and wonky, and is also tagged with instrumental hip-hop.
Streten is discovered and signed by Future Classic in 2011 after entering an original artists competition with the tracks “Sleepless”, “Over You” and “Paper Thin”. Nathan McLay, then an employee of Future Classic and later Flume’s manager, helps with the release of Streten’s first EP, Sleepless, which includes those three tracks.
Flume’s self-titled debut album is released in 2012. It includes collaborations with George Maple, Moon Holiday, Jezzabell Doran, Chet Faker and New York rapper T. Shirt. The album reaches number one on the Australian iTunes chart and enters the ARIA Albums Chart at number two.
In 2013, Flume announces a first headlining Australian tour, the “Infinity Prism Tour”, taking place in April and May. Later releases include “Some Minds”, featuring Andrew Wyatt of Miike Snow, “Never Be like You” with Kai, “Smoke & Retribution” with Vince Staples and Kučka, and “Say It” featuring Tove Lo, which is issued with the B-side “Wall Fuck”.
