Floorplan

Floorplan is a United States electronic music group made up of Robert Hood and Lyric Hood, the father-daughter duo known as Robert and Lyric Hood. The project combines disco, funk and soul influences with house music, and is strongly associated with gospel-style vocal feeling within dance music.

History

Floorplan first appears in 1996, when Robert Hood uses the name to launch his Drama imprint with the Funky Souls EP. The project then remains inactive for more than ten years before returning in the late 2000s as a renewed Hood outlet and becoming one of his best-known aliases.

Robert Hood has already established a major reputation in techno over the previous 25 years, with productions that help shape minimal electronic music. Lyric Hood moves from appearing in Floorplan DJ sets and watching her father perform to becoming a co-producer and performer in the project.

Albums and releases

Floorplan releases Paradise in 2013. The album includes Let’s Ride, Baby Baby and Never Grow Old. Its follow-up, Victorious, appears in June 2016 on Robert Hood’s M-Plant imprint. That release follows the single Music/Tell You No Lie.

Style and activity

The duo perform Floorplan material across dancefloors internationally, and the project develops into a notable part of Robert Hood’s wider catalogue. Lyric Hood describes Floorplan as central to her musical identity, and the act continues as a father-daughter collaboration within house and techno.
