Floating Points

Floating Points is the name used by Sam Shepherd, a British electronic musician and neuroscientist from Manchester, United Kingdom. Born in 1986, he works across electronic music, house, dubstep, microhouse, post-dubstep and progressive house, and his music also draws on jazz and downtempo influences.

Shepherd is an accomplished pianist and has played since the age of 16. His production work spans a wide range, from string quartet writing to harder-edged beat-led tracks. As a DJ, he generally moves between boogie and house.

His influences include Theo Parrish, Dorothy Ashby and Stravinsky. He also presents a monthly radio programme on NTS called Floating Points. He is associated with Pluto and Eglo Records, and with the projects A Pulse Train and the Floating Points Ensemble.
