Flevans is a United Kingdom-based electronic music artist and producer born in 1978. His work draws on acid jazz, funk, downtempo and chillout, and his DJ sets and productions span a wide range of genres and periods.

Background and musicianship

Flevans plays piano and double bass, which he develops through youth work in jazz and funk bands, as well as some rock bands. That live instrumentation remains part of his productions, where it sits alongside cut-and-paste beats and dancefloor-focused riffs.

Style and releases

His recordings combine material from across different musical eras, from folk and funk to music from the 1920s through to the year 2000. The result is a sound that is accessible while still difficult to classify neatly. Earlier releases include the Begin Again EP, which has a warm, relaxed feel, and tracks such as Go Get The Big Horn and Get Caribou, which lean towards party-oriented energy.

Record label

Flevans also runs his own label, Nearby Bear Recordings. He uses it for his album The Foundation.
