Fleshwater

Fleshwater is an American group from Lowell, Massachusetts, active since 2017. It forms as a side project linked to the metalcore band Vein.fm, and its lineup includes Anthony DiDio, Matt Wood and Mirsy.

Style and influences

The group works across alternative metal, post-hardcore and shoegaze. Its sound differs from Vein.fm’s heavier and more experimental metalcore, drawing instead on a more accessible late-1990s and early-2000s style. The project’s influences include Far, Failure, Hole, The Smashing Pumpkins, Hum and Deftones.

Fleshwater’s music combines heavily distorted guitars with clean female vocals, and it also uses shoegaze elements in parts of its material. One example is the second half of “We’re Not Here To Be Loved” (2022), which features introspective male vocals.

Membership

The project’s members are Anthony DiDio, Matt Wood and Mirsy. Other musicians mentioned in connection with the group include Josian Ramos on drums, Jeremy Martin on bass and Jonathan Lhaubouet on live guitar.
