Flash Harry

Flash Harry is the debut solo release by Barnaby Weir, the singer-songwriter known for work with The Black Seeds and Dub Connection. Weir also uses the alias Sagitarius and identifies it as a solo project shaped over a long period, with older songs reworked alongside newer ideas. The material is described as personal, late-night and exploratory, with each song taking its own direction and meaning.

The recording process is credited to a prolonged period of writing, listening, planning and rewriting, with Lee Prebble finishing and shaping the album’s sound. The release combines several styles, including funk, electro, rock and dub, and is presented as a mix of polished and raw elements rather than a fixed genre piece.

Flash Harry are also described as a different act: a four-piece new wave band from Johannesburg, South Africa, active between 1980 and 1983. That group releases two LPs, Going Straight and Take what you can, and plays white reggae in a style likened to The Police.
