Fit for a King

Fit for a King is an American metalcore band, active since 2007. The group is from Tyler, United States, and its sound is described as melodic metalcore, metalcore and post-hardcore. It operates under Fit for a King Publishing.

Line-up

The current members are Bobby Lynge, Ryan “Tuck” O’Leary, Trey Celaya and Ryan Kirby. Earlier line-ups include several founders and later additions, including Jared Easterling, Aaron Decur, Justin Juno, Jared McFerron, Alex Danforth and Jed McNeill. The band also includes guitarist Daniel Gailey in the wider history given for its line-up.

History

The band begins in 2007 and first builds its name through local and regional shows, then releases two early EPs. It later moves into full-time touring. In its early years, members change several times: McNeill and McFerron leave in 2009, Ryan Kirby joins in 2010, and Bobby Lynge joins from Kirby’s earlier band Bodies Awake. The group also changes frontmen during this period, with Mason Wilson briefly replacing Danforth before Kirby joins.

Its first independent studio album is Descendants, tracked in 2011. The music video for “Ancient Waters” helps it gain a wider following. Bassist Aaron Decur leaves in 2011 and is replaced by Aaron Kadura, who also performs clean vocals.

Releases and labels

Fit for a King releases the independent EPs Fit For A King and Awaken the Vesper, followed by the independent album Descendants. In 2012, the band signs to Solid State Records. Its second studio album, Creation/Destruction, arrives as its first release for that label, followed by Slave To Nothing in 2014, Deathgrip in 2016 and Dark Skies in 2018.

The band later releases The Path and The Hell We Create. One single from The Path, “God Of Fire”, features Ryo Kinoshita of Crystal Lake. Another single from the same album is “Locked (In My Head)”.

Later activity

Bobby Lynge steps back from touring in 2018 while remaining involved in writing. The band later says it is slowing down album releases in favour of making more intentional albums.
