Fingathing

Fingathing is an instrumental group from Manchester, United Kingdom, active since 1998. The act comprises Peter Parker and Sneaky. Its sound combines breakbeat, electronic music, instrumental hip hop, nu jazz, trip hop and turntablism, with a strong emphasis on live instrumentation and turntablism.

Formation and members

The duo first plays together as part of the backing band for Rae & Christian before forming Fingathing. Sneaky plays double bass and is classically trained, while Peter Parker handles turntables and MPC. The group also works with Chris Drury on visuals.

Releases and label history

Fingathing releases several full-length albums on Grand Central, including The Main Event, Superhero Music and Fingathing and the Big Red Nebula Band. A best-of compilation follows those albums. After parting company with Grand Central, the group continues without a label and releases material independently.

Its later self-funded releases include the mixes Life after Death, Biscuit and Bloody Axe, along with the EP Apocalypso. The group also shares material through its Myspace site.

Fingathing performs with turntables, upright bass and live animation, using these elements to create a blend of technical effects and live playing within its hip-hop-based sound.
