Filthy Rich is the stage name of Leeds-based UK DJ and producer Richard Wakley. He works in house, techno, progressive house, electro house and tech house, and his sets and productions are described as moving between sleazy tech-house, dirty minimal and electro while keeping a strong groove.

Career

Filthy Rich performs both as a solo artist and as one half of the duo Spektre, alongside Paul Maddox. He tours internationally and holds club residencies including Kissdafunk, Hat Club, Very Very Wrong Indeed and regular dates at Ministry of Sound. His work reaches a wide range of dance music audiences, from techno-focused listeners to more commercial club crowds.

Production and releases

Rich has a discography of more than 50 productions and remixes. He releases music on labels including Spinnin and his own Control Freq imprint, which he uses for his own productions and for developing other artists. His tracks and remixes include a version of Inhaler’s “Something About You” featuring Christian Burns, “The Sound” by Control One, “Your Mind is Twisted” by Roog & Greg, and a “Full Metal Jacket” remix of “I’m a Soldier” by Roman Curtis.

He also completes remixes for Sidney Samson, Dave Armstrong and Seamus Haji, and receives radio support from BBC Radio 1, along with support from Steve Lawler, Tiesto and Carl Cox. Other named projects include forthcoming collaborations with Rob Tissera, James Fitch and Ed Kane, a follow-up single with Altern 8, and remixes of Digital Enemy Vs Prok & Fitch’s “Take Me With You” and James Doman’s “Imagination”.

Style and reputation

His approach is based on playing music he enjoys rather than directing the crowd, and he is presented as a technically skilled DJ with tight mixing and varied selections. His releases and DJ sets are associated with heavy club use and dancefloor-focused house and techno sounds.
