Filthy Dukes

Filthy Dukes are an electronic group from London, made up of Olly Dixon and Timothy Lawton, with Mark Ralph joining in 2005. The group begins as a duo and spends several years DJing internationally while promoting the London club night Kill Em All at fabric.

Music and style

Filthy Dukes work in electropop, electro, synthpop and indie-based electronic music. They draw on contemporary acts such as Hot Chip, Simian Mobile Disco and Soulwax, alongside older artists including Can, Tangerine Dream and Roxy Music. They produce their music on a mixing desk originally built by Conny Plank, the producer associated with Krautrock.

Releases

The group signs to Fiction Records in January 2008. Their debut single is Tupac Robot Club Rock, which appears in November 2008 and includes vocals from Plastic Little, with remixes by Oliver $, L-Vis 1990 and Plastic Little. Their debut album, Nonsense In The Dark, is released in March 2009, preceded by the single This Rhythm. The album features guest vocals from Samuel Dust of Late Of The Pier, Orlando Weeks of The Maccabees, Brandon Curtis of Secret Machines, Tommy Sparks, frYars, Plastic Little, Foreign Islands, To My Boy and Mauro Remiddi of Sunny Day Sets Fire.

Remixing and collaborations

Filthy Dukes are active as remixers and receive commissions for Late Of The Pier, Bloc Party, White Lies, Kevin Rudolf, Operahouse, Heloise & The Savoir Faire, The Rakes, Temper Trap and Vagabond. Their recorded output is described as a blend of analogue-electro, indie and kraut-pop influences.
