Fiction Factory
Fiction Factory are a UK new wave and synth-pop group formed in Perth, Scotland in 1982 and active until 1987. The band’s line-up includes Kevin Patterson, Chic Medley, Eddie Jordan, Mike Ogletree and Gillian Miller. Their sound combines melancholy pop songwriting with danceable synthesised rhythms and prominent bass lines, and their music is often associated with 1980s UK synth-pop.
Music and style
The band’s songs are shaped by soulful, plaintive vocals from Kevin Patterson, along with keyboards, guitar, bass and percussion. Their style draws on new wave and synth-pop, with a sound that reflects the influence of Heaven 17 while still centring on Patterson’s vocal delivery.
Recordings
Fiction Factory’s best-known single is Feels Like Heaven, which appears on their debut album Throw the Warped Wheel Out. They follow this with a second album, Another Story, before the group ends in 1987.
