Felon is the stage name of Simone Locker, a UK house, hip hop and R&B artist. She takes her name from her time in prison following an attempted armed robbery.
Career
Felon emerges on the UK dance scene in 2002 with her debut single, Get Out. The track reaches the top five of three charts at the same time and peaks at number 31 in the mainstream chart. It also appears with remixes by Phats and Small and Luck'n'Neat. Music press responses describe the single as a landmark release for a new generation of urban music, and one review calls it the finest R&B record of the decade.
After the release of Get Out, Felon has difficulties with her record label over her intellectual property, promotion and the shelving of television appearances and a planned follow-up single. Universal is involved in trying to help, but the working relationship with Serious becomes untenable.
Collaborations
Felon works with JD from So Solid on the track U Ain't Worth It. She also collaborates with The Renegades on Hey.
Style and context
Her music is associated with the UK house scene, with links to urban music, R&B and hip hop.
