Felicity Groom

Felicity Groom is an indie pop artist from Perth, Western Australia. Her music combines dark folk-pop and indie pop with elements of 1960s pop, and her vocal style is described as moving between delicate melodies and rougher, more forceful delivery. She works as a singer, guitarist, autoharp player and keyboard player.

Career

Groom begins to perform her folk-pop material in London, Paris and Berlin before settling in Perth. She releases her debut EP, Treasures, in 2009. The EP receives strong airplay on Triple J, where she is also featured as an artist, and includes the track “Criminal”.

She later releases “Finders & Keepers”, which appears in 2010, and it serves as the first taste of her debut album Gossamer. Her work gains support from Tim Rogers, Paul Dempsey, Sally Seltmann, Sarah Blasko and Tame Impala, who all call on her to support their shows.

Recognition and collaborators

Groom wins West Australian Music Awards for Best Indie Pop Act in 2009 and 2010, and for Best Commercial Pop Act in 2011. Her live performances often feature guest appearances from musicians associated with Jebediah, Tame Impala and Pond, reflecting her links within the Perth music scene.

Style

Her songs are associated with brooding, melodic pop, with references to artists such as Françoise Hardy, Nick Cave and PJ Harvey used to describe the mix of sweetness, tension and grit in her sound.
