Fauna

Fauna is a Russian group associated with black metal, atmospheric black metal, dark ambient and ambient. The name is used by several different acts, but this entry refers to the Russian project.

Overview

The group works in a dark ambient and black metal register, with long-form compositions and a reclusive profile. Its recorded output includes two 2007 demos, Rain and The Hunt, each built around a single piece lasting over an hour. Rain appears in released form on Aurora Borealis in 2008, while The Hunt follows in late 2009 in a version that replaces the original drum machine with live drums.

Releases

The Hunt also appears later as a digital release, with the mastering and track gaps from the Aurora Borealis CD removed. The band's third album, Avifauna, is released in 2012 on Pesanta Urfolk, appearing on double vinyl and CD. Before that release, an earlier live performance circulates online under the title Feathainne.

Related material and members

Two additional cycles have been conceived and performed, although it is not clear whether they are recorded. Members of the project also appear in Echtra, Threnos, Fearthainne, Alethes and Sadhaka.
