Father John Misty is the solo project of J. Tillman, an American musician from Rockville, United States, born in 1981. He records as a solo artist under the Father John Misty name and has also released solo material under the name J. Tillman since 2003.

Background and associated work

Before adopting the Father John Misty moniker, Tillman plays drums for Seattle band Fleet Foxes between 2008 and 2011. His Father John Misty debut is the album Fear Fun, introduced by the single Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings. The album is produced by Jonathan Wilson and mixed by Phil Ek.

Recordings and releases

Father John Misty releases Fear Fun in 2012, followed by I Love You, Honeybear in 2015, Pure Comedy in 2017, God's Favorite Customer in 2018, Chloë and the Next 20th Century in 2022, and Mahashmashana in 2024. His recorded work is associated with the label Cripple Creek Fairies, and his catalogue is described in genres including experimental rock, folk rock, indie rock and psychedelic rock.
