Far Too Loud

Far Too Loud is a British electronic music act active since 2005, associated with breakbeat, breaks, electro breaks, electro house, complextro and EDM. The project is built around DJ and producer Oli Cash, who is identified with London, United Kingdom, and the act also includes Dom Smart and Oliver Burke. It begins as a breakbeat project but develops a wider sound shaped by other forms of dance music.

Style and releases

The Far Too Loud sound combines hard-hitting drums, heavy basslines, detailed production and distorted sound design. Its early work includes the tech-breaks track “Get High”, and the project also releases a mix of original material and remixes. Among the better-known releases are the two three-part EP series Louder Than Life and Music For Machines, along with the tracks “Play It Loud” and “You Know The Sound”.

Recognition and collaborations

“Get High” wins Best Single at Breakspoll 2007. The electro remix of Lily Allen’s “Not Fair” becomes notable enough to feature in her live show, leading to a further commission for another remix. “Play It Loud” and “You Know The Sound” both receive Best Track nominations at the Beatport Music Awards.

Live work

Far Too Loud signs to Funkatech Records and its releases circulate widely among DJs and radio stations. The act performs internationally, including shows in China, Russia and across Europe, as well as regular appearances in the UK. Festival appearances include Glastonbury, Glade and Boom. In 2008, DJ sets from the Breakspoll Awards and Glastonbury Festival are broadcast on BBC Radio 1, and the project also introduces a live laptop-based set built entirely from original material, combining older tracks with new beats and psychedelic effects.

Line-up changes

In 2009, Far Too Loud changes from a duo to a solo act when original member Dom Smart leaves to concentrate on a solo project, leaving Oli Cash to continue the act. The project remains active thereafter.
