Faith SFX is a UK beatboxer from London, growing up in NW5 and starting beatboxing in 2003 while in his final years at William Ellis School in Highgate. He works within grime and the wider UK urban music scene, and is described as the first and only beatboxer to come from the UK garage/grime scene as well as the UK hip-hop scene.

Career

Faith SFX performs using only his voice, recreating sound effects, samples, beats and vocals without samples or instruments. He appears regularly at clubs and on tours in the UK and also performs internationally. His work includes production built from his beatboxing sounds alone, and he collaborates with artists and crews from the UK underground scene.

Collaborations and performances

He works with acts including SLK, Akala, Professor Green, Narstie and Lman. He performs at major events and has appeared at UMF 2004, where he performed in front of 20,000 people shortly before Jay-Z’s last retirement performance. He also opens for artists such as Jadakiss, Ludacris and Mobb Deep.

Media and crossover work

Faith SFX appears on television and radio programmes including ITV, MTV, Channel 4, BBC 2, Kiss100, Radio 1 and 1Xtra, as well as on pirate radio stations in London. His crossover projects include work on a Motorola advert and an interview on The Paul O’Grady Show.

Other projects

He also works with Mercury Prize-nominated Denis Baptise and Joanne McGregor on an urban version of a jazz percussion piece, developed over five weeks and performed live for Radio 4.
