Exile

Exile is an American country band formed in 1963 in the United States. The group is active from 1963 to 1993 and is associated with country pop, country rock, pop, pop rock and soft rock, with yacht rock also listed among its styles. It begins as The Exiles and is formed by singer and guitarist J.P. Pennington.

Line-up and development

The band’s membership includes Paul Martin, Lee Carroll, Buzz Cornelison, Gary Freeman, Steve Goetzman, Mark Gray, Marlon Hargis, Bobby Johns, Mark Jones, Sonny LeMaire, J.P. Pennington, Jimmy Stokley, Les Taylor and Kenny Weir. After a number of minor hits, Jimmy Stokley leaves and Les Taylor replaces him, helping to shape the band’s country rock sound. A later lineup includes Pennington and Taylor on guitar and vocals, Sonny LeMaire on bass and vocals, Marlon Hargis on keyboards, and Steve Goetzman on drums.

Career

Exile records several minor hits and is best known for the pop hit “Kiss You All Over,” which reaches number one on the pop chart. The band eventually disbands in 1993. Pennington and Taylor later reform Exile in 1996 with a new lineup.
