Ewan Pearson is a DJ, producer, remixer and writer from Kidderminster and Berlin, born in 1972. He has been making records since 1998 and works across electronic music, with genres associated with his output including downtempo, electronic, house and tech house.

Recording and production work

He records under several names. As Maas, he releases music on Soma and issues six singles and the album Latitude. He also records as World of Apples and as Partial Arts, a project associated with Cologne’s Kompakt label.

His remix work includes tracks for Depeche Mode, the Chemical Brothers, Seelenluft, Cortney Tidwell and Freeform 5. These remixes are collected on Small Change on Soma and on the Piece Work retrospective on !K7.

His production credits include Tracey Thorn’s solo album Out Of The Woods, The Rapture’s Pieces of the People We Love and M83’s Saturdays=Youth. He also programmes for Goldfrapp and Gwen Stefani.

Writing and criticism

Ewan Pearson is also a published academic. With Jeremy Gilbert, he co-authors Discographies: dance music, culture and the politics of sound, published by Routledge in 1999. He writes a regular column for Germany’s Groove magazine and maintains an Enthusiasm blog.

DJ work

As a DJ, he is associated with clubs including Privilege, the Pulp and Panoramabar. His releases as a DJ include SciFiHiFi Vol. 1 for Soma and fabric 35, both of which are nominated for Plug awards. His 2006 Resident Advisor podcast is voted the site’s best of that year by its readers.

He works on the debut album by Australian group Lost Valentinos, new Partial Arts material, remixes for Hot Chip and Foals, and the next solo record from Tracey Thorn.
