Ewan Hoozami is a soul beats artist from Bristol, England, who works as a DJ, producer, multi-instrumentalist, rapper and singer. He is known both as a one-man live act and as part of a three-person setup, and he is described as a vinyl-focused record collector and sample hunter with a background in party DJing.

Early releases and sampling style

Hoozami’s 2009 album Wildebeats introduces his early cut-and-paste production style. Tracks such as “Drinking Song” and “Falcon Punch” appear on Solid Steel mixtapes associated with Ninja Tune, and “Drinking Song” also receives BBC Radio 6 airplay. These releases establish his interest in sample manipulation and collage-like production.

Later development

Over time, his music moves further away from sampling and incorporates more original instrumentation and songwriting. He expands his role from producer into singer, and his work develops through a period of remixing other artists, including Dirty Dubsters, Mr Bird and Lazy Habits.

EPs, mixtapes and collaborations

He releases the free Fire In Me EP and a series of mixtapes. His second album, Robot Soul, is presented as a largely sample-free project and features guest appearances from OneSoul, Ill Literate of The Scribes, Colleen Quinn of Substatic and Lady Nade, along with guitar work from Brendan White.

Live work

Hoozami tours Greece twice and appears at a range of festivals and events including Soundwave Festival in Croatia, V Festival, Isle of Wight Festival, Brisfest, Beach Break Live, Red Bull Riders, Boomtown Fair and Larmer Tree Festival. He also performs as a DJ with Funk From The Trunk, a Bristol funk and hip-hop collective.
