eVoid are a South African rock and synth-pop group from Brakpan. Formed in 1977, the band centres on Lucien Windrich, Erik Windrich, Wayne Harker and Georg Voros. It begins as a three-piece act with Lucien Windrich on guitar, vocals and songwriting, Erik Windrich on keyboards, vocals and songwriting, and Wayne Harker on drums and percussion.
The band first finds success in Zimbabwe, where it has a residency during the final years of Rhodesia and the emergence of the new state. In 1979, the song “Magicia” reaches number 4 on the Zimbabwe charts. eVoid later develops a reputation as a live band, and its self-titled debut album, released in South Africa in 1983, brings major chart success.
eVoid becomes known for mixing African images and sounds into the style of white punk bands that challenge apartheid. In 1985, the group leaves for London to avoid conscription into the apartheid military. Its second album, Dance the Instinct, appears in 1986, and a third album with the same title as the debut is released on cassette in 1993.
