Evergreen

Evergreen is the name used by several different groups and artists, including an early 1990s post-hardcore band from Louisville, Kentucky. That Louisville band begins as Cinderblock, formed by Troy Cox and Dave Pollard, before taking the name Evergreen. It operates with a changing lineup, with guitarist Tim Ruth as the one constant member through its various incarnations.

The band releases one 7-inch in 1994 and one LP/CD in 1995, both on Hi-Ball Records. The LP later appears again in a 2005 reissue on Temporary Residence Records. Its recorded lineup on that album includes drummer Britt Walford, known for work with Slint and Squirrel Bait, and vocalist Sean McLoughlin. The recording is handled by James Murphy, who later becomes the frontman of LCD Soundsystem and is also associated with Speedking and DFA. In 2009, Noise Pollution issues a 21-track retrospective, Wholeness of the Soul, which gathers remastered material alongside early unreleased demo and live recordings. For that release party, Troy Cox and Dave Pollard reform as Cinderblock Redux.

Another Evergreen from the early 1990s is an American emo band from the Bay Area. That group has several releases, but few remain in print, and it is noted for the rarity of its self-titled LP. Its 7-inch is released on San Diego label Gravity Records. Members include Aaron Calvert on guitar, Andy Ward on bass, and Jason Boesel on drums; Calvert later plays in Winfred E. Eye, Ward is also in Antioch Arrow, and Boesel later joins Rilo Kiley.

The name also belongs to an Irish and celtic music group from Israel, a progressive metal/rock band from Kerala in India, and several other acts, including an indie-pop five-piece from Derby that later becomes Antiseptic Beauty, a co-owner of Leeds dubstep label Ranking Records, a rock/indie/pop band from Woodbury, New Jersey, an electronic pop/rock band formed in 2009 in the greater Baltimore area, a heavy metal band from Botswana, a 1990s skate/indie rock band from Perth, a Canadian indie rock and indie folk band from Edmonton, a Parisian alternative indie-electro-pop band formerly known as We Were Evergreen, a lo-fi production project by rapper Ben Beal, an American bluegrass band from Maine, an American bluegrass group from Virginia, and a Christian worship band from Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania.
