Etta Marcus

Etta Marcus is an English alternative singer, songwriter and musician from London, brought up in Brixton, South London. She begins playing instruments at a young age, starting piano at eight and guitar at ten, and her music draws on the varied local music culture she grows up around. Her influences include Everything But The Girl, Alex Turner, Jeff Buckley, Mazzy Star and Joni Mitchell.

Releases and early recognition

Marcus breaks through in October 2021 with her debut single, Hide & Seek, which draws attention for its songwriting, vocal range and dreamy sound. Her second single, Salt Lake City, is a collaboration with English indie artist Matt Maltese and follows a month later. She releases her debut EP, View from the Bridge, in January 2022. The record is a five-song set built around dark guitar ballads and haunting, romantic melodies.

Further work

After View from the Bridge, Marcus releases the singles Crown and Nosebleed through Polydor Records. Her second EP, Heart-Shaped Bruise, follows, and it introduces stringed elements into her sound.

Live performances

Marcus tours in support of her releases, appearing with Matt Maltese in the UK and then joining Tom Odell for much of the UK leg of his monsters world tour. She also opens at the O2 Academy in Brixton, her hometown.
