Esa
Esa is a name used by several artists, including ESA, the industrial and electronic project of Jamie Blacker from the UK. Blacker starts ESA in 2003 after working in the English underground black metal and death metal scene and releasing demos for some time. After hearing artists such as Converter and Sonar, he moves into harsh electronic music.
ESA / Electronic Substance Abuse
Under the ESA name, short for Electronic Substance Abuse, Blacker releases the demos Starving The Mind in 2003 and Stream Of Consciousness in 2004. He plays live with acts including Mimetic and Scrap.edx before signing to Hive Records. Hive Records releases the debut album Devotion, Discipline, And Denial in 2006, followed by How Pure Would Your Utopia Be? in 2008.
ESA also releases The Sea & The Silence on Tympanik Audio in 2008 and Themes of Carnal Empowerment, Pt. 1: Lust on the same label in 2012. Blacker also works with Unter Null.
Other artists using the name Esa
The name Esa also refers to the Italian rapper Francesco Cellammaro, who is also known as El Presidente and is part of Gente Guasta. It is also used by the Cameroonian soul-funk-makossa singer Stéphan Dayas, and by ESA, meaning Endlich Schlechte Akustik, the acoustic project of the German punk rock band Endlich schlechte Musik from Nuremberg. In podcast listings, ESA can also refer to the European Space Agency.
