ES is the solo project of Finnish musician Sami Sänpäkkilä. He is the founder and head of the underground record label Fonal Records, and his music reflects the label’s approach through sound-based experimentation, free-folk ambience and occasional dense drone passages.

Alongside his work as a musician, Sänpäkkilä is also a film-maker. He creates short films and music videos, with work screened in museums, art galleries and film festivals in different countries. His music and films are described as experimental moodscapes that deal with melancholy, pathos and hope.

As ES, he performs as part of Tuusanuuskat and is associated with ambient and drone music. He has performed across North America and Europe at festivals including Sonár, Subcurrent and Itsenäisyysyö at B2 club in Moscow. His solo releases include Sateenkaarisuudelma, a double LP later issued as a 2CD edition.
