Ereb Altor

Ereb Altor are a Swedish black, doom and viking metal group from Gävle. The project takes shape in 2003 and is active from then on, with Ragnar listed as a member. The band develops from an earlier formation in the early 1990s, when the same two musicians who still make up the group begin working together after growing up with Bathory’s later, more epic material as a major influence.

Style and background

The band builds its sound around Bathory as a foundation and describes its approach as a branch of epic viking metal. Their music is also framed as epic viking doom metal, with lyrics that move away from Bathory’s usual themes while keeping the same general aesthetic. The group later returns after a break of more than a decade, during which the members are active in other bands, and records again in late 2003 using some older songs that are altered for the session.

Recordings

Ereb Altor issue a 2003 demo titled The Awakening. Their debut full-length, By Honour, appears on I Hate Records in 2008. Their second album, The End, follows on Napalm Records in 2010.
