Envy of the State is a UK alternative rock band that has also been known as NewBreed and, for a period, Ever The Joker. The group changes its name after legal issues arise over another band using the same name in the United States. It then settles on Envy of the State as a unique name for releases, online use and branding.

Background

The band is established in the UK under the name NewBreed. When the name is no longer practical, it uses Ever The Joker while preparing a forthcoming album. After completing new album artwork, a photo shoot and a newly mastered record, the band decides on the name Envy of the State instead. Lead singer Scott explains that the group wants a name that is not already in use and that suits the direction of the band and the album.

Recording and promotion
