Enny is the professional name of Enitan Adepitan, a London-born English rapper, singer and songwriter. Born in 1994, she is of Nigerian heritage and is raised in Thamesmead, South East London. She lives with her parents and is one of six siblings.

Early life and influences

Enny develops an interest in music from a young age, shaped by her family and home environment. Her father teaches her to play instruments including the keyboard. She also takes part in a local street dance group, where American hip-hop plays an important part. Her wider musical tastes include jazz, gospel music and hip-hop, and these influences later feed into her work.

Career beginnings

After high school, Enny spends two years trying to build a career in the film industry, but she becomes unhappy with that path and returns to music and freestyling. She starts gaining attention through freestyle videos on YouTube. These lead to her self-released debut single, He’s Not Into You, which appears in 2020 and includes reflections on relationships and life lessons. Following this, she is introduced to the studio programme Root 73 by her manager Pascal.

Breakthrough and notable releases

Enny is later scouted by English singer-songwriter Jorja Smith and signs to Smith’s label, FAMM. Her best-known track is the 2020 single Peng Black Girls, which gains wider popularity after a remix with Jorja Smith is performed live on ColorsxStudios. The song is also produced in 2021 and reaches more than a million views in its initial release, while the remix gains several million further views.

Enny works across rap, singing and songwriting, and is associated with the UK rap scene. Her music draws on soul, R&B, jazz, gospel and hip-hop influences.
