Emma Bunton
Emma Bunton is an English pop singer, songwriter and occasional actress from Finchley, London, United Kingdom. She is best known as a member of the Spice Girls, where she is known as “Baby Spice”. She is also listed as a member of Various Artists for Children’s Promise.
Solo career
Bunton begins her solo career in 1999 with a collaboration with Tin Tin Out on “What I Am”, which reaches number 2 on the UK chart. Her first solo album, A Girl Like Me, is released in 2001 and includes the UK number-one single “What Took You So Long?”, as well as the top five singles “What I Am” and “Take My Breath Away”, and the top twenty single “We’re Not Gonna Sleep Tonight”. The album sells around 125,000 copies in the UK.
In spring 2003, she returns to recording under the name Emma, dropping her surname, with “Free Me”, a top five hit. Later that year she releases “Maybe”, which also reaches the top ten and sells more than the previous single. In spring 2004, she releases “I’ll Be There” and the album Free Me. That album features 1960s-style pop material and sells more than her first album. Free Me is later released in the United States in 2005.
Later releases
Bunton releases “Downtown” as the official charity single for the BBC’s Children in Need appeal in 2006, and it reaches number three. She later releases the album Life in Mono.
In 2019, she releases “Baby Please Don’t Stop”, followed by the promotional track “Too Many Teardrops” and a duet with Jade Jones, “You’re All I Need to Get By”, a cover of the Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell song. Her album My Happy Place is also released in 2019. It contains two original songs and eight covers, and features appearances from Jones, Robbie Williams, Will Young and Josh Kumra. The album enters the UK Album Chart at number 11.
