Emilia Mitiku is a Swedish pop and soul singer from Stockholm, known for the single “Big Big World”. She is also known as Emilia Rydberg, the name she uses earlier in her career, and she begins performing as Emilia Mitiku in 2012, taking her father’s surname.

Background

Emilia Mitiku is born in Stockholm in 1978. Her father is Ethiopian singer Teshome Mitiku and her mother is Swedish. She is discovered in 1996 by Lars Anderson, the son of ABBA manager Stig Anderson.

Career

She is mostly known for “Big Big World”. In 2009 she competes in Melodifestivalen, the Swedish selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, with the song “You’re My World”. She advances directly from her heat and finishes ninth in the final.

Her album My World is released in 2009. In the same year she records “Side By Side” (Szerelemre hangolva), a duet with Ákos Dobrády, and the song is issued in both Hungarian and English versions.

She also records a cover of Rihanna’s “We Found Love” during a studio session in Stockholm, and the video is published on her official YouTube account.

Her fifth album, I Belong To You, is released in 2013. The video for “You’re Not Right For Me” premieres in December of the same album cycle.
