Elucidate

Elucidate is an electronic music duo from San Francisco made up of Ken Loi and Sean Beckwith. They form in 2005 and work as both producers and remixers, focusing on trance and vocal trance. Their sound combines electro and techy percussion and basslines with uplifting trance pads and leads, and they build a recognisable style through tracks that blend these elements.

Production and releases

The duo first gains attention with their remake of the trance track “Skydive”, which helps establish their name in mainstream trance. That remix also receives support from Ferry Corsten and other DJs. After releasing “Skydive” and other remixes and originals in 2007 and 2008, they become especially active in 2009 and 2010, issuing close to 20 tracks across independent and major labels. Their productions appear on labels including Bonzai, Alter Ego, Ultra, Blackhole and Perfecto, alongside releases on Smu, Neuroscience, Abora, Unearthed and Amplified.

Radio, mixes and live work

Elucidate also develop a following through their mixes. Their live recorded DJ sets are issued as the Lucid Dream Mixes, and they present a monthly radio show called DIVE, short for Deep In Vocal Euphoria. The show features new trance and vocal trance in mixed sets, guest mixes from DJs around the world, and runs on Digitally Imported, where the duo holds a long-running residency. Their mixes also reach listeners through internet radio and podcasts.

The duo is known for live performances that combine turntable mixing with production techniques such as looping, layering and live remixing. Their sets also incorporate synthesizer arpeggios and classical elements, with an emphasis on crowd interaction.

Label work and wider exposure

Elucidate sign to Paul Oakenfold’s Perfecto label and appear on Oakenfold’s album Perfecto Las Vegas. Their music receives regular rotation on U.S. satellite radio through XM and Sirius, and also on FM stations worldwide. Over a period of several years they release more than 30 tracks from their studio, with originals and remixes appearing in radio support, live sets and compilation albums.
