Elephantis

Elephantis is a melodic hardcore group from Guildford, England. The band forms in 2009 and is active until 2015. It is a five-piece group, with members including George Marriott, Olly Harvey, Connor Jackson, Joe Oliver and Angus Roberton.

Style and activity

The band plays melody-driven hardcore with a strong melodic emphasis, and it is also tagged as hardcore, metalcore and ambient. Its sound develops around heavy vocals and structured melodies, with later material described as more focused and mature than earlier work.

Releases and songs

Elephantis releases the EP Pining through Dream Atlantic Records. This release is an 18-minute recording and includes the tracks “Counting Stars” and “Rosette”. The single “Believe In Me” gains attention through the FaithLoveHope channel on YouTube.

Performances and reception

The group builds a following through shows across the UK and in Europe, and it supports acts including Liferuiner, Gideon and Napoleon. Its music is described as combining carefully built melodies with harsh vocals.

Line-up and writing

Connor Jackson speaks about the band’s later writing as more relaxed, raw and natural, with songs becoming more focused. Angus Roberton contributes the coarse and gravely vocal style associated with the group’s recordings, while the addition of guitarist Rory Bevis broadens the sound and introduces clean vocals on later material.

End of the band

In September 2014, Elephantis announces on Facebook that it is no longer continuing, citing musical differences.
