Electric Jalaba

Electric Jalaba is a collaborative project between Soundspecies and Moroccan Gnawa musician Simo Lagnawi. The group combines Gnawa traditions with rock, psychedelic elements and groove-based instrumentation, creating a sound built around the camel-skin guembri, Lagnawi’s vocals, analogue effects and distorted guitar textures.

The project draws on traditional songs and themes, including stories about mysterious women, men who divide oceans, and soul conquerors. Its performances are described as moving between heavy grooves, quieter passages and intense climaxes, with a strong emphasis on rhythm and live energy.
