Ele

Ele is an American DJ and instrumental hip-hop artist from San Diego, California. Born in Sonora, Mexico and raised in Arizona, she draws on a wide range of sounds and starts out DJing on vinyl, spending her first 10 years working strictly with records. Her sets and interests span deep house, drum and bass, hip hop, downtempo, soul and spoken word, and she develops a reputation for blending these styles into club and radio settings.

Career

In 1999, Ele gains momentum in Arizona’s underground house scene and becomes a resident at clubs and warehouse parties including Batucada, Red Monkey, Rhythm & Form, and Golden. In 2002 she moves to San Diego, where she settles in 2008 and quickly becomes a regular name at weekly and monthly events. She also joins San Diego’s Jazz88 Illfonix show as DJ number 6 in its rotation, adding to a weekly programme that connects bebop and hip hop and reaches into house, soul, downtempo, drum and bass and spoken word.

Work in San Diego

After relocating to San Diego, Ele holds residencies at Art In The Park, a monthly event that combines music and art. She also works in the studio on production and appears alongside artists including Charles Feelgood, Natural Self, Nortec Collective, DJ Z-Trip, Pete Salaz, DJ DRM of Bastard Jazz NYC, DJ Beatnick, Simply Jeff, Def Sound and Sachamo.
