Efterklang

Efterklang is a Danish indie rock band from Copenhagen, formed in 2001. The group is active as a four-piece core line-up built around Mads Brauer, Casper Clausen, Thomas Husmer and Rasmus Stolberg, with the wider live and recording cast changing over time. Their active membership includes Mads Christian Brauer, Heather Woods Broderick, Peter Broderick, Casper Clausen and Jens Rasmus Stolberg. The band also works with a fifth member, Rune Mølgaard.

Efterklang’s music sits within alternative rock, post-rock and rock, and they are also associated with electronic and ambient material. They release music through the label Springer and later use their own label, Rumraket, which they also run. Their early releases include Springer and Tripper in 2004, followed by Rumraket in 2005, Under Giant Trees in 2007 and Parades in 2007. They also issue the live recording Performing Parades with The Danish National Chamber Orchestra in 2009.

Albums and orchestral projects

The band’s fourth album, Piramida, appears in 2012. In connection with that record they launch The Piramida Concerts, a series of orchestral performances that begin with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra at the Sydney Opera House. The project totals 16 concerts linked to the album’s release.

Collaborators and side projects

In live settings, Efterklang is often joined by musicians including Peter Broderick, Frederik Teige, Heather Broderick and Niklas Antonson. They also perform regularly with Martyn Heyne, who plays piano, guitar and choir, Tatu Rönkkö on drums, and Katinka Fogh Vindelev on piano and vocals. Beyond music, the group also works in filmmaking, including The Ghost of Piramida by Andreas Koefoed and An Island, a collaborative film with Vincent Moon.

The project goes into hiatus in 2014 after the formation of Liima by Tatu Rönkkö, Mads Brauer, Casper Clausen and Rasmus Stolberg.
