EF

EF is a five-piece band from Gothenburg, Sweden, associated with post-rock and instrumental music. The group forms in May 2003 and begins by playing heavier material in a basement before moving towards a sound built around melody, emotion and dynamic shifts.

Early releases and development

In its first three years, the band records and releases four CD-R demos and starts playing shows in different parts of Sweden. Its first proper release is a two-track 7-inch on Jezebel Recordings in November 2005. The band then signs a co-operation with US label Raise the Red Flag, which leads to a debut full-length album released in 2006. That album is also licensed in Japan through Thomason Sound, a division of Inpartmaint.

Touring and activity

EF’s first European tour takes place in October and November 2005 and lasts three weeks, with 16 shows. After the debut album, the band completes a 12-day European tour.

The group’s music develops from heavier beginnings into work centred on atmosphere, melody and dramatic build-up. It is also noted in the available genre information as synthwave.
