Edge Michael

Edge Michael is a reggae artist from Westmoreland, Jamaica. He is born Oral Mark Durloo to David Durloo and Melzeta McIntosh, who is the younger sister of Peter Tosh.

Early life and influences

He grows up with a strong interest in music rather than the professions his parents imagine for him, and he begins performing while still at high school. His background places him within a Jamaican musical family connection through Peter Tosh.

Career

In the early 1990s, Edge Michael performs as lead vocalist for the Jah Children Band and shares stages with Dennis Brown, Gregory Isaacs and Sanchez. He later performs with members of the S.A.N.E. Band before moving on to broader work.

His first recording is the self-composed and co-produced single Try My Love, issued on the Crowd Pleaser label in 1994. The single receives radio play and sells more than four thousand copies.

In 1995, he joins the Gumsion Band as lead vocalist. The band acts as an opening and backing group for Beres Hammond, and that year he performs at Reggae Sunsplash and Reggae Sumfest.
