Echobelly

Echobelly are a London-based alternative rock band active from 1992 to the present. The group has a British and Swedish background and is centred on vocalist Sonya Aurora Madan and guitarist Glenn Johansson.

Career

The band comes to wider attention after Morrissey praises them and invites them to support him on his 1994 tour. They then reach their commercial peak during the Britpop period of the mid-1990s, when they place two albums in the UK Top 10: Everyone’s Got One in 1994 and On in 1995.

Albums and compilations

After their early success, Echobelly release Lustra in 1997, People Are Expensive in 2001, and Gravity Pulls in 2004. The band also releases a best-of compilation, I Can’t Imagine the World Without Me, in 2002, followed by The Best Of Echobelly on SonyBMG in 2008.

Style and labels

Their music is associated with alternative rock, Britpop, dream pop, indie rock, power pop, and rock. They release material on Epic Records, Fauve, and Fry Up.
