Earthling

Earthling is a UK downtempo and trip-hop group from Bristol, active in the 1990s and later. The group is associated with the Bristol trip-hop scene alongside acts such as Massive Attack, Tricky and Portishead.

Line-up and style

The group includes Mau and Tim Saul. Its songs often feature Mau on vocals as a rapper, and some tracks feature the female singer Moni. The sound is rooted in 1990s UK trip hop and downtempo electronic music.

Releases and activity

Earthling releases a debut album, Radar, in 1995. Geoff Barrow contributes additional work to some songs on that record. After the debut, the group drops out of sight for a period, then issues a second Earthling record, Human Dust, in 2004.

Related projects

Mau also collaborates with Cuba, 2 Square, Télépopmusik and Dirty Beatniks. A third member of Earthling, Andy Keep, later releases the debut LP of a new project called Ming.
