Eagle and the Worm

Eagle and the Worm are an Australian indie group from Melbourne, Victoria. They perform as an eight-piece touring and recording band, with a line-up of Jarrad Brown on vocals, Richard Bradbeer on bass, Michael Hubbard on guitar, Ben Morrison on synth, Joe Cope on Hammond, Jim Lawrie on drums, Emily Mould on trombone, Liam McGorry on trumpet and Ross Beaton on baritone saxophone.

Career

The band builds its reputation as a live act, playing major Australian festivals and clubs including Big Day Out, Meredith, Bluesfest and Falls Festival. They also perform at UK and European festivals such as End of the Road and Electric Picnic, alongside their own international headline club shows.

Releases and collaborations

Their debut album, Goodtimes, is released in 2011. The album receives positive critical notice, with reviews describing it as a strong debut and highlighting the band’s large-scale, full-band sound. After spending the latter part of 2011 writing and collaborating with Hypnotic Brass Ensemble from Chicago, Big Freedia from New Orleans and Milwaukee MC Juiceboxxx, the group records the EP and ten-inch release Strangelove during the Australian summer of 2012. It is set for release on Warner Australia.

Style

The band’s sound is identified with pop and roots music. Their influences include Springsteen, Dan Kelly Dream Band and The Wire, and they are described in terms that place them alongside Dennis Wilson and Storm Thorgerson.
