DYS

DYS is an American straight edge hardcore punk band from Boston, Massachusetts. It is part of the Boston Crew scene alongside groups such as SSD and Negative FX. The band’s name comes from the Department of Youth Services, a Massachusetts government organisation.

Releases

DYS releases two LPs: Brotherhood and the self-titled DYS. Brotherhood remains highly regarded by hardcore fans. The self-titled album moves further towards hard rock and heavy metal than hardcore. Taang! Records reissues both albums together on CD as Fire and Ice. Taang! also reissues Brotherhood on CD in its original form, with the Wolfpack demo tape added, and Reflex Records issues it on vinyl as Wolfpack with additional tracks.

Members and later work

The group’s members include Jonathan Anastas, Jack Clark, Ross Luongo, Al Pahanish, Dave Smalley, and Franz Stahl. Dave Smalley later sings for Dag Nasty, ALL, and Down By Law. Jonathan Anastas becomes a founding member of Slapshot before leaving the music business for a career in advertising.
