Dylan Owen
Dylan Owen is a hip-hop artist from Orange County, New York. He is known for introspective songs that draw on rural life, nature, wilderness and open roads, and for a style that combines storytelling, symbolic writing and imagery with technical emceeing, wit and wordplay. His sound is developed with longtime producer Skinny Atlas and brings together elements of alternative rap, pop and folk, with live instruments such as violin and trumpet appearing alongside turntable scratches.
Career
Owen first gains wider attention through his early projects Keep Your Friends Close and There’s More To Life. These releases bring him acclaim across music blogs and help him move from DIY shows in coffee shops and at open mics to larger stages. He shares bills with Mac Miller, Wiz Khalifa, Watsky, Skizzy Mars and Logic.
His writing is often compared with alternative songwriters such as Conor Oberst and Elliott Smith. He builds a dedicated audience through his songs, his live performances and fan-facing projects. He appears on Spadez’s “All That Glitters”.
Community and other work
Owen also publishes a self-published book and releases Holes In Our Stories. He runs a weekly Coffee with Dylan series, in which he speaks by video chat with a listener. He regularly donates proceeds from his merchandise line to mental health organisations. His shows sell out, and he has built a particularly active listener community around his music and personal writing.
His profile also includes recognition as Billboard’s “Next Big Sound” and more than 13 million Spotify plays. His audience often responds strongly to his lyrics and the personal themes in his catalogue, which include mental health and wider questions of meaning, growth and resilience.
