Dune

Dune is a German electronic group from Germany, known for happy hardcore, progressive trance, rave, techno and related dance styles. The group forms in 1995 around Oliver Froning and Jens Oettrich and uses its name from Frank Herbert’s science fiction novels.

Career

The band’s first single, Hardcore Vibes, features vocals by Froning’s 11-year-old cousin, Janine. Its follow-up, Are You Ready to Fly?, establishes the group’s signature sound, with high-pitched vocals and memorable melodies. In 1996, Dune releases Forever, an album that includes classical-style pieces performed with the London Session Orchestra.

After Forever, lead vocalist Verena von Strenge leaves to pursue a solo career. In 1998, the group returns with Vanessa Hörster as singer and releases Keep the Secret, followed by Electric Heaven, which does not achieve strong commercial results. Verena von Strenge later rejoins the group in late 1999.

The single Dark Side of the Moon appears in advance of the shelved album Reunion, which is not issued because of legal issues connected to the single Heaven. The last known release from the band is Rainbow to the Stars 2003, a reworking of an earlier hit.
