Dull Knife
Dull Knife is the name used by at least three different acts.
German krautrock band
One Dull Knife is a German krautrock group from the 1970s. It releases one album, Electric Indian, in 1971. The line-up includes Gottfried Janko on keyboards and vocals, Martin Hesse on bass, Klaus Zaake on drums and percussion, and Christian Holik on guitar.
Brighton, UK group
Another Dull Knife forms in Brighton, UK, towards the end of 2013 after a series of living-room jams. George and Jack meet through the 1960s psych band The Pretty Things and form the rhythm section. Their shared interests include delta blues, 1960s garage psych and outlaw country, and much of their repertoire is written while travelling, in hotel rooms and in Jack’s living room.
Seattle, Washington project
A further Dull Knife begins in the early 2000s in Seattle, Washington. Its core members are Garek Druss, who also plays in A Story of Rats, Tecumseh and Stenskogen, and Adam Svenson, who is associated with Karnak Temples, Little Claw and Du Hexen Hase. At one point the line-up also includes Charlotte AuRevoir, also known as Charlotte Blodvin-Hjärta, who is linked with Kount Fistula, Arachnid Arcade and Liten Nattskärra. This version of the project starts as a super-jam involving figures from Seattle’s drone, noise and weird-music scene.
