Dubheart

Dubheart is a Bournemouth-based reggae group active since 1999. It plays a roots-led style that sits across Christian dub, reggae and gospel-reggae.

Line-up

The core line-up remains centred on Mark Shepherd on bass, Gavin Sant on drums, Richard Ramsey on guitar, Dave Mountjoy on keyboards, and Steve Parsons on percussion and djembe. The group later adds three vocalists and songwriters: UK/JA roots reggae singer Zacheous Jackson, Parisien ragga/hip-hop MC Tenja, and UK roots reggae singer Prince Jamo. Tenja is also listed among the members.

Live activity and collaborations

Dubheart performs at festivals and clubs across the UK and Europe. It also supports and works with a range of acts, including The Wailers, Easy Star All-Stars, Vibronics, Zion Train, Don Letts, Love Grocer, Paul Fox of Shades of Black, MDV, UK Playerz, Jah Reg and Seventh Sense Allstars.

Musical influences

The group draws on a wide set of reggae and dub influences, ranging from 1970s artists such as The Gladiators, Burning Spear, Culture, Dennis Brown and Scientist, to later Jamaican and US roots artists including Niyorah Abjah, Taurus Riley and Groundation, as well as UK steppers names such as Conscious Sounds, Jah Warrior, Iration Steppas and Jah Shaka.
