Dub Syndicate

Dub Syndicate is a UK dub reggae group formed by drummer Style Scott, who previously plays with the Roots Radics and Creation Rebel. The project is active from 1982 and has a fluid line-up, with some musicians appearing across a large part of its output rather than as fixed full-time members.

Line-up and collaborators

Among the most regular contributors are Bim Sherman on vocals, Deadly Headley on saxophone and Dr. Pablo on melodica. Dr. Pablo is a different musician from Augustus Pablo. The group also includes Errol “Flabba” Holt and George Oban in its listed membership, and Style Scott remains central to its identity.

Recordings and production

Much of Dub Syndicate’s catalogue appears on On-U Sound Records and is produced by Adrian Sherwood, the label’s owner. Production on later releases is shared between Sherwood, Scientist and Style Scott, and some material also appears on Style Scott’s Lion & Roots label.

Guest artists

The group’s albums feature a number of other reggae figures, including Lee “Scratch” Perry, Skip MacDonald, U-Roy and Prince Far I. Its sound sits across dub, reggae, electronic and chillout.
