Drop the Lime

Drop the Lime is the electronic producer and DJ Luca Venezia from New York, United States. His work sits across electronic music, breakcore, dubstep, experimental music and grime, and he also performs and records under the alias Curses!.

Background and style

Venezia develops his sound from a wide range of influences, including Brian Eno, rockabilly, Sonic Youth and Wu-Tang. He is also known for playing sets built around 1950s doo-wop and soul. He begins as a choirboy and develops an early obsession with 1950s rock and roll, which feeds into his later approach to production and DJing.

Releases and labels

He works through the underground electronic scene and releases music through labels including TigerBeat6, Mad Decent and the French label Institubes. Under the name Curses!, he continues that experimental output alongside his Drop the Lime work.

Trouble & Bass

Venezia also runs Trouble & Bass, a New York club night and label that starts in 2006. The project becomes a key part of the city’s bass music scene, with the Trouble & Bass collective describing a new New York sound through DJ sets and production work. He says that collaboration within the crew shapes his music, with other producers and DJs contributing ideas and basslines because they understand his sound closely.
